  • Rehabilitation Programs

  • Located in Penrose Hospital, the Rehab Unit provides a safe environment with onsite access to consulting physicians, diagnostic procedures, specialized treatments and emergency care.  This specialty unit provides inpatient rehabilitation care to meet the specialized needs of patients recovering from strokes, spinal cord injuries, neurologic disorders, multiple trauma and other complex orthopedic and medical conditions.

Penrose-St. Francis Rehabilitation Services practices an ongoing commitment to quality. We undergo reviews by the Commission for Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) once every three years. We are proud to announce that CARF's comprehensive survey and inspection of all of our operations has resulted in three-year accreditation.

    Capron Legacy of Caring

Eleanor Capron Inpatient Rehabilitation began as a generous gift to the people of southern Colorado from Keith Capron in loving memory of his wife Eleanor. The spirit it reflects -- a belief in people and their potential to overcome obstacles and live as fully as possible -- guides our facilities, staff and programs today.

    Patients have told us...

"You've helped extend my life to 140!"
    "The best of everything..."
"... Kindness, concern and compassion ..."
    "Lucky to be here!"

Many neurologic, orthopedic and medical conditions can result in loss or reduction of physical function, such as impaired mobility, communication, or inability to perform self care or swallow. Penrose-St. Francis Hospital provides interdisciplinary rehabilitation services to our adolescent, adult and geriatric patients to help minimize this loss of function.

Rehabilitation services are available in all of the Penrose-St. Francis Hospital Inpatient units.  Our specialized therapists may even begin your therapy care in our Critical/Intensive Care settings to start your rehabilitation as early as possible.

An energetic team of rehabilitation professionals design a plan to maximize each patient's recovery capability. Physiatrists (doctors who specialize in physical medicine and rehabilitation), nurses, physical, occupational and speech therapists, psychologists, case managers and others pool their expertise on behalf of each individual. Physicians on staff are highly credentialed experts in spinal cord, stroke and brain injury care. Our team of professionals applies specialized training in stroke, brain and spinal cord injury rehabilitation, backed by top-of-the-line technology. Therapists and nurses are dedicated caregivers who offer compassion and sensitivity to patients and their families, often bringing over 20 years of experience to our patients. Because the rehab unit is hospital-based, specialists in trauma, neurology, neurosurgery, internal medicine and other related fields provide consultation 24 hours a day. Access to the hospital's diagnostic and treatment resources often eliminates the need for transfer elsewhere for complex conditions.
