When You Arrive
When you arrive at the sleep center, you will meet the technologist who will be present during your entire study. Your technologist will show you to your private bedroom where you will change into your sleeping attire. The technologist will explain the procedure and answer any questions while applying the monitoring devices, which take approximately one hour.
Several small sensors will be placed on your scalp, face, chest, abdomen, and legs. These sensors will monitor brain waves (EEG), respiratory flow and effort, oxygen levels, muscle tone, leg movements, snoring, heart rate (EKG), and eye movements. The wires are long enough for you to find a comfortable sleeping position. After the technologist finishes applying the electrodes, you will have a chance to relax before bedtime. You are welcome to bring reading material or a laptop. If you need assistance, you can page the technologist.
Your technologist will oversee the recordings during the course of the night from computer monitors located outside the room. In the morning, you will be discharged between 5:30 - 6 a.m. and will be able to enjoy a breakfast snack and juice/bottled water before leaving. If you need to wake up earlier, please let the technologist know but we must be able to collect at least six hours of recordable data. Our staff will do everything possible to make you comfortable during your stay.
If you have any questions about the procedure, your technologist is available to answer your questions.
After Your Sleep Study
After your study is complete our staff will evaluate your study and send a report to your referring physician. You will need to make an appointment with your referring physician to get your results. Your physician will determine if you need additional treatment.
How Do I Know If A Sleep Study is Right for Me?
If you suffer from sleep issues, talk to your primary care physician to see if you are in need of a sleep study. Your physician will need to call or fax our center a referral for a sleep study. We accept most insurance.
