Lactation Services

The Birth Center team at St. Francis Medical Center is committed to supporting your choice to breast-feed. We offer the following programs and services to help you and your baby succeed.

Breast-feeding Classes

Are you wondering if breast-feeding is the right choice for you and your baby? This comprehensive, two-part breast-feeding class, taught by an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is for you. To register, call (719) 571-3101.

Inpatient Breast-feeding Consults

Should you need breast-feeding training, education or support while in the hospital, our specially trained Mother-Baby nurses and Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultants will help you learn how to breast-feed right from the start.

Private Outpatient Lactation Consults

If you have difficulty breast-feeding after leaving the hospital, need additional support or education, you can schedule a private consultation with one of our lactation consultants. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call (719) 571-3100.

Breast-feeding Mother’s Group and Baby Weigh-in

Meet other breast-feeding mothers, share tips for success, weigh your baby and get some expert advice from one of our lactation consultants. Group meets Tuesdays from 1 to 2 p.m. at St. Francis Medical Center. To register, call (719) 571-3101.

Mother’s Milk Bank

Got milk? You can give the gift that only a mother can give – breast milk. Many infants have special health needs and require feedings of breast milk in order to thrive. The purpose of the Mother’s Milk bank is to screen, collect, store and dispense human milk by prescription only to these needy little ones. The program is managed by Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center in Denver and St. Francis Medical Center in Colorado Springs is the local milk collection site. For more information, a screening interview or instructions, call (303) 869-1888.

Breast Pump Rentals and Sales

We are proud to have the only hospital-based lactation store, The Lactation Center Boutique, conveniently located on the 3rd floor of St. Francis Medical Center. This one-stop shop makes it easy for you or a loved one to rent or purchase a breast pump, nursing bras, breast-feeding support products and other unique items before you leave the hospital.

Lactation Hotline

If you have breast-feeding questions after you leave the hospital, give us a call at (719) 571-3018.  One of our lactation consultants will be happy to answer your questions.

Additional information on classes including dates, times, locations and cost are listed in the 2010 Preadmission and Schedule of Classes booklet.
