2013 Press Releases
DENVER – Renowned orthopedic surgeon Douglas A. Dennis, M.D., with Colorado Joint Replacement (CJR) and the Porter Center for Joint Replacement, will perform an advanced knee replacement operation tomorrow morning, Tuesday, November 19, at Porter Adventist Hospital in Denver to demonstrate a sophisticated new knee replacement implant. The surgery will be captured live by a Belgium film crew and broadcast to approximately 300 surgeons attending a surgical symposium in London.
According to recent studies, 10 to 20 percent of knee replacement patients are not completely satisfied with their knee implant when performing everyday tasks post-surgery. Designed by Dr. Dennis and Brian D. Haas, M.D., the new knee replacement implant is praised as a revolutionary advancement in knee joint replacement for the improved range of motion and stability it provides. Both Dr. Dennis and Dr. Haas have worked in partnership with DePuy Synthes Joint Reconstruction, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, over the past six years to develop the knee replacement implant. CJR performs more than 1,500 joint replacements annually and is internationally recognized for its research, development, training and surgical expertise.
The knee replacement implant provides greater quality of life for implant recipients by delivering a high level of motion and stability previously unseen in other knee implants. It features several key proprietary technologies that allow for smooth movement and transition through a patient’s range of motion, protection of soft tissue and bone from damage and erosion, reduced stress to the tibial spine and improved overall optimization of kinematics.
Following the hour-long procedure, CJR’s Dr. Dennis will deliver a keynote presentation at the symposium titled “Total Knee Arthoplasty Kinematics: What I’ve Learned in Twenty Years”. Knee kinematics is the study of the three-dimensional geometry of the knee joint as it relates to the knee’s range of motion without consideration of the causes of motion.
