Surgical Services at St Francis Medical Center

Surgical services provides care for both inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures at Penrose Hospital. State-of-the-art procedures and technology allow our surgical team to serve southern Colorado with the most modern care.

Perioperative Services at Penrose-St. Francis Health Services offers high quality care of the surgical patient beginning with the pre-operative testing and preparation, through the operating room, and immediate post-anesthesia recovery. PSF Perioperative Services also offers a full array of diagnostic and interventional procedures in the GI Labs at two of the campuses.

 

Penrose Hospital, St. Francis Medical Center, and St. Francis Health Services offer combined 24-hour operating rooms that serve all surgical specialties. PSF Perioperative Services' clinicians utilize state-of-the-art equipment and operative techniques to care for the surgical patient. Penrose Hospital offers all surgical specialties as well as around-the-clock surgical support for the hospital's Level II trauma designation.

    A variety of support services are performed in conjunction with the care provided to patients who are being treated at Penrose Hospital.

    Surgical support services Include:

    • Pre-Anesthesia Assessment
    • Same Day Surgery Admission and Discharge
    • Post-Anesthesia Care
    • Endoscopy

    Surgical services utilizes specialized equipment for the following procedures:

    Laparoscopy

    Laparoscopic technology (visualization of internal organs via a telescope inserted through a small abdominal incision) is routinely used for diagnosis and treatment of disease. Laparoscopic techniques may be utilized to remove the gallbladder, appendix, for hernia repair and other procedures.

    Lithotripsy

    Shock waves are used for the non-invasive treatment of kidney and ureteral stones. This treatment may eliminate the need for more invasive surgery to relieve the patient of the symptoms of kidney and ureteral stones.

    Image Guided Surgery

    Image guided surgery is a highly sophisticated, state-of-the-art navigational technique that offers three-dimensional computerized anatomic visualization that assists the surgeon in pin-pointing the exact operative site. It may be used in neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery and ENT surgery.
