Penrose-St Francis Inpatient Rehabilitation Services
Inpatient Services are provided on the Acute Care Hospital Floors at both Penrose Hospital and St. Francis Medical Center, and on the CARF-accredited "Inpatient Capron Rehabilitation Unit" at Penrose Hospital.
Acute care hospital Inpatient Services are based on a foundation of competency and caring. An interdisciplinary approach to rehabilitation means trained professionals work directly with the patient and family to design a plan of care to meet each individual's particular condition and needs. Team members may include:
- Physical Therapists (PT) carefully evaluate their patients and implement individualized treatment programs to optimize movement, flexibility and muscle control, build strength and endurance, and improve balance. The goal of physical therapy is mobility and ease of accomplishing everyday tasks.
- Occupational Therapists (OT) help patients gain independence in performing daily activities, such as meal preparation or more complex tasks required in the workplace. A program is customized to increase strength, range of motion and coordination through exercise.
- Speech Therapists are certified to provide specialized help with many aspects of communication and swallowing. Therapy may introduce compensatory strategies and retraining techniques, as well as the use of electronic devices and computers.
- Rehab nurses are specialty trained RNs assigned to the Capron Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit.
Extraordinary medical capabilities are backed by state-of-the-art equipment and the expertise to move patients through a smooth, positive transition to the next level of care. A wealth of resources and a compassionate staff reflect a rehabilitation philosophy that encourages independence and movement toward self-sufficiency.
Rehabilitation Services at Penrose-St Francis are accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC). The Capron Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit is also accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF)
