Level IV Trauma Center at St. Francis Medical Center
The Level IV Trauma Center at St. Francis Medical Center is the home base for the Flight For Life® Colorado air-ambulance helicopter service and the maternal/child transport team. When a member of the community experiences a physically traumatic event, our three-room trauma center provides the necessary immediate care. Last year, our trauma team treated more than 350 trauma patients.
The Level IV designation we have received from the American College of Surgeons means that we provide an initial evaluation when a trauma patient arrives at St. Francis Medical Center. After the initial evaluation, our team works to stabilize the patient and order and perform any necessary diagnostic tests. If our trauma team ultimately feels a higher-level of care is needed to treat the patient we will make the decision and transfer the patient to another facility.
As part of Colorado's largest trauma system, St. Francis Medical Center has access to Centura Health's Trauma System's emergency and trauma resources, including our sister hospital in Colorado Springs - Penrose Hospital. The trauma facilities at St. Francis Medical Center provide trauma care for community members in Colorado's eastern towns like Yoder, Calhan and Peyton.
