• Services We Offer

  • An interdisciplinary approach to rehabilitation means trained professionals work directly with the patient and family to design a plan of care to meet each individual's particular condition and needs. Team members may include:

    • Physical Therapists (PT) carefully evaluate their patients and implement individualized treatment programs to optimize movement, flexibility and muscle control, build strength and endurance, and improve balance. The goal of physical therapy is mobility and ease of accomplishing everyday tasks.
    • Occupational Therapists (OT) help patients gain independence in performing daily activities, such as meal preparation or more complex tasks required in the workplace. A program is customized to increase strength, range of motion and coordination through exercise.
    • Speech Therapists are certified to provide specialized help with many aspects of communication and swallowing. Therapy may introduce compensatory strategies and retraining techniques, as well as the use of electronic devices and computers.
    • Rehabilitation Nurses are specially trained Registered Nurses (RNs).
    • Physiatrists are physicians who are specially credentialed in physical medicine and rehabilitation.  They are nerve, muscle and bone experts who treat injuries or illnesses that affect how you move.
    • Nurse Counselors

    • Case Management services address the social and economic issues that arise as a result of disability and coordinates team recommendations with patients, their families and insurance carriers. Case managers also link patients with an array of community resources that can smooth the transition to home, community and work.

Together with other members of the team, doctors are committed to helping patients return to their homes, their families and their work as quickly as possible.  Capron Rehabilitation discharges a higher percentage of patients to home or community settings compared to other regional or national rehabilitation facilities.

Extraordinary medical capabilities are backed by state-of-the-art equipment and the expertise to move patients through a smooth, positive transition to the next level of care, whether at home or in an outpatient setting. A wealth of resources and a compassionate staff reflect a rehabilitation philosophy that encourages independence and movement toward self-sufficiency.

A peer mentoring program, Rehab Buddies, provides inpatients with one-on-one personal support during difficult adjustments and offers links with community support groups.

Rehabilitation Services at Penrose-St. Francis are accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC) and the Inpatient Rehab Unit has an additional accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).  These two accreditation sources provide the most prestigious standards of excellence in inpatient hospital and rehabilitation care.
