  • Robotic Assisted Surgery
The Penrose-St. Francis Robotics Institute is the local authority in a variety of minimally invasive robotic procedures that create better patient outcomes. With 24 surgeons and the newest robotic technology, we've performed more robotic-assisted surgeries in the past eight years than any other hospital in the region. Learn more.

Laparoscopic technology (visualization of internal organs via a telescope inserted through a small abdominal incision) is routinely used for diagnosis and treatment of disease. Laparoscopic techniques may be utilized to remove the gallbladder, appendix, for hernia repair and other procedures.

Shock waves are used for the non-invasive treatment of kidney and ureteral stones. This treatment may eliminate the need for more invasive surgery to relieve the patient of the symptoms of kidney and ureteral stones.

    Image Guided Surgery
Image guided surgery is a highly sophisticated, state-of-the-art navigational technique that offers three-dimensional computerized anatomic visualization that assists the surgeon in pin-pointing the exact operative site. It may be used in neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery and ENT surgery.

Hybrid Surgical SuiteThe Hybrid OR Suite is a large surgical suite that combines state-of-the-art computer-generated technology and radiologic imaging with a sterile operating room environment. It allows physicians to switch minimally-invasive operations into open surgical procedures when needed, without having to transport the patient. Critical time can be lost when a patient needs to be transferred to a separate operating room. Sometimes these moments can save the patient’s life. Penrose Hospital is the only hospital in Colorado Springs to offer this technology.
