Mercy Regional Medical Center Receives 2013 Hospital Website Transparency Award
12/17/2013

Award identifies outstanding hospital websites that promote transparency of safety and quality measures in a manner that is useful and user-friendly for consumers

(Durango, Colo.) — Mercy Regional Medical Center announced today that it has received the Hospital Website Transparency Award from URAC and The Leapfrog Group. The award identifies outstanding hospital websites that promote transparency of safety and quality measures in a manner that is useful and user-friendly for consumers.  The winners were announced as part of The Leapfrog Group Annual Meeting in Arlington, VA.  This is the second year Mercy has received the award.

“URAC commends Mercy Regional for achieving the Hospital Website Transparency Award, showing true initiative in protecting consumers through transparency and quality reporting,” said Kylanne Green, URAC President and CEO. “We are celebrating these hospitals who exhibit innovations and best practices, and it is encouraging to see these hospitals that are committed to informing, protecting, and serving the community.

“For the past two years, the Hospital Website Transparency Awards have recognized hospitals that have adapted and succeeded in the new era of health care consumerism,” said Leah Binder, President and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “They have designed websites that are informative, engaging, and user-friendly for the communities they serve. We applaud their commitment to innovation and healthcare transparency.”

“Transparency in healthcare is important to Mercy and we want to give consumers the information they need to participate fully in their care by making informed decisions,” said Will McConnell, Mercy’s chief quality officer.  “The Mercy web site is one resource through which we can share quality indicators and other important data,” he added.

“Many industries have been transformed by the Internet, but healthcare has been slower to adapt,” said Leah Binder, President and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We are proud to recognize Mercy Regional Medical Center as a leader in applying the tools of the digital age to build trust with their community.”

The Hospital Website Transparency Awards program criteria was developed in accordance with the National Quality Forum’s guidelines for consumer-focused, Internet-based public reporting of health performance data as well as the Model Public Report Elements prepared for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.
